Short Description

These Smoky Espresso BBQ Meatballs are tender, savory, slightly sweet, and coated in a rich barbecue glaze with a deep espresso finish. HapBee Wake Me Up Honey adds just enough sweetness and coffee-forward depth to make the sauce bold, glossy, and completely different from ordinary BBQ meatballs.

Ingredients

For the Meatballs

  • 1½ pounds ground beef
  • ½ cup plain breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup finely diced onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

For the Espresso BBQ Sauce

  • ½ cup ketchup
  • ¼ cup HapBee Wake Me Up Honey
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • Pinch of freshly ground black pepper

For Finishing

  • 1 tablespoon HapBee Wake Me Up Honey
  • Thinly sliced green onions
  • Fresh parsley, optional
  • Cracked black pepper

Directions

1. Prepare the oven.
Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.

2. Make the meatball mixture.
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined.

3. Shape the meatballs.
Roll the mixture into approximately 1½-inch meatballs and arrange them evenly on the prepared baking sheet.

4. Bake the meatballs.
Bake for approximately 18–20 minutes, or until browned and cooked through.

5. Prepare the espresso BBQ sauce.
While the meatballs bake, combine the ketchup, Wake Me Up Honey, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper in a saucepan.

6. Simmer the sauce.
Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer over medium-low heat and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened.

7. Glaze the meatballs.
Add the cooked meatballs to the saucepan and gently toss until completely coated. Simmer for another 2–3 minutes so the sauce clings to the meatballs.

8. Finish and serve.
Remove from the heat and stir in 1 tablespoon of Wake Me Up Honey for a final layer of espresso sweetness. Garnish with green onions, parsley, and cracked black pepper.

HapBee Tip

For extra caramelization, transfer the glazed meatballs back to the baking sheet and broil for 1–2 minutes before serving. The Wake Me Up Honey will help the sauce caramelize into a sticky, glossy coating.
